Laneway Festival, Sydney

One of the most eagerly awaited performances at Laneway Sydney was by Los Angeles based singer Jillian Rose Banks simply known as Banks and she didn’t disappoint her adoring crowd.

Ominous black clouds thankfully dissipated allowing Banks to deliver a mesmerising 40 minute set that captivated the feel good crowd. Laneway is a great festival that enjoys exploring and nurturing fresh talent and the crowd seemed familiar with tunes from her new album Goddess. Many of these songs made the set list including Alibi & the title track Goddess.

Beggin for thread was always going to be well received (no 27 in Triple J’s top 100) and Brain (just outside at 149 in the countdown) meant that these songs already resonated with the crowd.

Banks was clearly delighted to be in Sydney and her first show in our city was a big success. For those lucky enough to have a ticket to Tuesday’s show at St Stephen's Uniting Church, you get to be spellbound all over again.
